On Ubuntu 12.04LTS I tried sudo apt-get install librecad [...] After this operation, 15.8 MB of additional disk space will be used. [...] librecad
At installation I chose inch units. LibreCAD help/about reports Version 1.0.1, SCM revision 1.0.0, Compiled on Feb 21 2012
In my Temp directory I have: ls -l ~/Temp/*.dxf -rw-rw-r-- 1 charrison charrison 29983 Dec 5 02:36 /home/charrison/Temp/Hopper-164_CAM.dxf -rw-rw-r-- 1 charrison charrison 62140 Dec 5 02:36 /home/charrison/Temp/Hopper-164.dxf -rw-rw-r-- 1 charrison charrison 28328 Dec 5 02:36 /home/charrison/Temp/Hopper_88_CAM.dxf
All three of these open from LibreCAD's File/Open menu.
All three have text issues (extra "\C7" characters) but the geometry on layer "VISIBLE" is fine. Dimension text also shows up in the wrong places.
verified same text problems with libreCAD import using either Autocad 2000 export or Autocad v14 export options from Alibre.
Some text issues are probably that LibreCAD is not happy with text format codes: http://www.cadforum.cz/cadforum_en/text-formatting-codes-in-mtext-objects-tip8640
