Update for new API #1

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Tried it but it seems the old scraping doesn't work anymore.

I'm including a new version with an ugly quick fix that uses the new API.

Please remove this update posting. As it states at cleverbot.com
"Conversational access is granted only to humans using this Cleverbot.com
interface directly". Cleverbot serving is expensive, and not open for any and
every usage. Contact us via cleverbot's feedback link if you want to ask
further.

Sorry, didn't see that text, had to search through the entire page until I
found it in a almost unreadable color in microscopic font at the bottom. Have
removed the file, but can't seem to remove the issue altogether.

With all due respect, you haven't provided an API to incorporate Cleverbot into
custom projects. Honestly, I see this as no different than using your html
scripts to incorporate Cleverbot on websites. I do understand that it is
expensive to maintain your server but how is this script different from using
your html scripts?

Forgive me if I appear to be rude. I simply wish to clear up this
misunderstanding.

Please remove all these postings and this code. Your code is entirely
different to my own firstly for the very obvious reason that it is explicitly
stated as disallowed by the creator, owner, and maintainer of Cleverbot (me!),
and secondly because it enables any number of misuses by others. It will also
not work for much longer.

Just for clarification, in what way can this bot be misused? Any technology
that can improve can just as easily be misused. If we were to live in fear of
misuse all of our lives for every sort of technology, we would never progress.

With all due respect, Mr. Carpenter, I am trying to understand the seriousness
of the situation and why it is an issue to have an API for Cleverbot? I noticed
that Dr. Wallace's Alice AIML files have been publicly used in several
different applications and they were rather amusing as well as educational
rather than harmful. I see the same potential for Cleverbot.

I'd also like to understand the seriousness of this situation. Another thing -
if conversational access is granted to humans only using the website interface
directly, then you are violating your own terms of service by allowing the
iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone apps to use Cleverbot indirectly. Mr.
Carpenter, please at least clarify your terms.

I also stand the same way on the "misuses" issue. Please clarify this as well.

Mr. Carpenter, I respect your work. It's really quite interesting and is the
only chatbot I've seen with "intelligence." If you don't want more user-created
API's, the only efficient solution is to make one yourself and make it public.
I'm not trying to be rude, just please clarify these things.

Thank you.
