CKAN is an open-source DMS (data management system) for powering data hubs and data portals. CKAN makes it easy to publish, share and use data. It powers datahub.io, catalog.data.gov and europeandataportal.eu/data/en/dataset among many other sites.
CKAN currently has a keyword constraint of 100 characters, which is shorter than several of the terms from the CF Standard Names controlled vocabulary, e.g. "concentration_of_colored_dissolved_organic_matter_in_sea_water_expressed_as_equivalent_mass_fraction_of_quinine_sulfate_dihydrate"
This is causing validation errors that prevent metadata records from being harvested into CKAN for some of our datasets.
Significantly increasing or eliminating the character limit on keywords will improve interoperability by supporting wider use of vocabularies like this and NERC P01 (which constructs even longer keywords).
