I am a Chinese international student in USA, and I firmly believe what the title states.
As you probably aware, media, either in western or in China, reports what they want people to see, not the truth.
I have been in USA for 5 years, since my undergraduate here, and I admit that I may just understand 0.000001% percent of US.
Same, I do not understand China 100% even though I have been living there for about 20 years.
However, I believe in what I see, by my eyes, not by media.
I see how China developed in the first 20 years of 21st century. I see how most, I need to emphasize here, "most" people enjoy a much better living than 20 years ago.
I see Xinjiang Terrorism, in Xinjiang and fighting Terrorism is a global question. Do you prefer the US way, that start war to end the so-called "Terrorism", and leave everything in devastation. Or, do you prefer the Chinese way, that we gather people together, kill the dangerous thoughts in seeds, while taking care of their family.
It is your choice, I cannot judge you, but I prefer the Chinese way. Not to mention that Xinjiang has more mosques than the entire United States, and people say we don't have religion freedom
I guess your wife, your mother-in-law and their family probably have the impression of China in last century. I cannot deny that China was not good at that time, many things happened, and many people die. However, time flies and now everything is different.
We make many mistakes, and develop our own ways, and every country has its own way. We need to respect how every country works, even though it may not be 100% perfect.
Let me give a small example of how should we respect other countries. I have been to South Korea, and talked with many Korean students during my undergraduate time. When mentioning the north/south korea relationships, they always say "this is our own problem, we don't want others, USA, China or the rest of the world to interfere".
I totally agree with their opinion.
Xinjiang, Hong Kong, Tai wan, this is our own problem, we don't want others to interfere. Even though we may not be correct
Because we do the same, we are not interested how other country works, unless they interfere us.
Remember, all the things i write above is what I see and what I thought, not through media.
So, if you never live in another country, any opinion from you, in my eyes, is not convincing.
Your argument sounds more reasonable than most, but you are mixing apples
and oranges. The US is fighting terrorist overseas who actively seek to
fly planes into our buildings and carry out bombings and mass shootings and
have explicitly declared war against us, whereas the CCP is rounding up all
citizens that do not toe the party line under pretext of terrorism and
brainwashing and executing. The former is a lawful combatant while the
latter is a strike against the humanity within us all.

That's true
The Chinese government with their always ruling party acts far more like the German third Reich with Hitler than America with their changing leaders.

First, I agree with your first part, that some wars America attended are targeting for terrorism, but some are not (for example, US invade Iraq because "a regime that developed and used weapons of mass destruction, that harbored and supported terrorists, committed outrageous human rights abuses, and defied the just demands of the United Nations and the world", but where is the weapons of mass destruction in the end ?).
Second, I disagree with your opinion on Xinjinag issue. Many people ignore the fact that Chinese government did this because potential terrorism. If you ask many people of the age of my father in China, and who lived in Xinjiang during childhood, terrorism is a word you cannot avoid. Many terrorists are from Southern Xinjiang, and they conduct random attach to elementary school, police department and so on. The most famous one in recent decade is the attack in Kunming, when I was in high school.
Do you think it is right for terrorist to attach elementary school ? Children are innocent, and many people are innocent.
Think of this way. If Xinjiang is in US, what would US government do ? No control on reglious belief until many people become terrorists ? And then use drone to destroy the area, kill husbands/wifes and leave children all along in the rest of the their lives.
How to solve terrorism, religon and country safety is a complicated issue, and I don't think anyone has a valid answer that can be used anywhere.
While the Chinese government choose a relatively peaceful way, I think it is acceptable.
If anyone is not satisfied, please give me a better solution to prevent terrorism.
I would say a good rule of thumb is when the method used to fight
terrorism causes even greater terror, and targets over a million
innocent civilians not involved at all in terrorism, then the solution
is worse than the problem. I don't know if you've ever personally met
Uyghurs, but I've met them in Kashmir, and while the Islamists were
waging war against the Hindu government and shooting up the streets,
the Uyghurs were living peacefully in the beautiful mountains, tending
their goats, even taking care of their severely disabled child in the
midst of poverty.
And yes, the Iraq war did not go well, and perhaps should not have
been done in the first place. Although, that situation is less clear.
Saddam was definitely trying to create nuclear weapons, and did use
chemical agents on his own people. Check out "The Bomb in My Garden"

Well, from the CCP's perspective, anyone who believes in God more than
the CCP is a terrorist, so that means they have no problem arresting
all Uyghurs, as well as all Christians, Falun Gong, Tibetan Bhuddists,
etc. Pretty handy classification 'terrorist' to get rid of anyone the
CCP feels threatened by. But, does make you wonder, just how strong
is the CCP if a woman praying privately in her bedroom is a threat to
their entire order?

I find it appalling to parallel Falun Gong with Christians or Bhuddists. Falun Gong is a heresy; with some knowledge of their past crimes and what they advocate for, you probably would not consider them as an "innocent religion". (As a tiny reminder, Uyghurs are an ethnic group and not a religion: there are many secular Uyghurs despite the majority being muslims.)
The CPC is pretty respectful to religions although they are explicitly atheists themselves, with some evidence already included in @FeiyangJin 's post, so it's better to separate "anti-terrorism" from "anti-religion"... After all, it's a false claim that we've ever persecuted Christians. (I always find it hilarious that China's made a law on how reincarnation of the living Buddha's supposed to work.)
I think we are reaching a deadlock here. There unfortunately is no value-neutral report that can be considered as "pure fact". We are quoting the Chinese data and reports which the West believes are covering the facts; but at the same time, a lot of the Western reports are straightly false as well. (Look at the recent Xinjiang slavery incident; anyone who's ever been to Xinjiang or knows how the Chinese economy is like would just laugh at it.) There's little we can do to tell truth from lie.
