In particular, how CEX survey data are used in CPI calculation.

  1. How consumer expenditure data are calculated for lower-level index
  2. How does BLS decide certain quote are included in maker basket or not?
  3. HOW does BLS get the relative importance of items?

@odotxiugang I thought the Consumer Price Index (CPI) is calculated from the baskets of consumer goods, a fixed list of items used specifically to track the progress of inflation. As TCI concept is derived from CPI, the Individual-level model-based approach (household level) may not include all households, but a sample of all households (market market) for TCI calculation. I might be wrong as I have not read document of the individual-level approach. Just my two cents and hope it helps.
