I've manually installed the Windows Server Agent and the Java Agent on the current PPE shipper - LON-WS00214
The Java Agent basically only gives information about the JVM that LogStash is running in.
The Windows Server Agent gives info about all the services running on the windows machine.
Bundling the agent with the shipper is easy. Bundling the Server agent is not.
My question is, do we need both, or is just having the agent sufficient?
The JVM insight is certainly quite helpful already, though the already encountered automatic app server handling implies that we do not receive very much performance information from those boxes like so.
https://github.com/cityindex/logsearch-on-aws/issues/10 yields the decision to always integrate the Java agent by default via #124, but handle the more complex server agent installation separately via #142 once there's more pressing need for this to be in place (which might be the case once the number of shippers/environments increases).
Closed as Won't Fix due to agent monitoring being handled differently meanwhile.
The New Relic agents should be installed along with the shipper
