Haven't done this yet - I want to include reproducible steps and haven't gotten to re-testing the scenario we saw. Should be straightforward; just need to sit down and do it.
Today...
Well done!
I shall be refering to you as Docker Berger from this point forward - awesome repro steps! - https://github.com/dpb587/elasticsearch-lost-index
Write a message to the elasticsearch discussion group to give this scenario - #338, verify the behavior we saw, and confirm there isn’t some sort of setting to prevent overwriting existing data files. It seems odd to allow that sort of unintentional data loss. Best case; our understanding of the issue is improved. Worst case, our topic will show up if someone else has a similar problem and Google’s the symptoms and possibly help them out :)
