On 1/29/19, Nathan Wilkes requested to move a "Projects" layer from a file GDB saved in the Active Transporation folder in the G Drive to the GISMAINT1 environment.
Moving the layer to GISMAINT1 is not a problem, however his existing Mxd will have broken links once we move the data. He asked whether or not we could automate this task.
Nathan emailed Diana a zipped folder containing the feature layer, file geodatabase and .mxd of the "Base Map Lite 14.mxd". It's saved it here: G:\ATD\ATD_GIS\01_ADMIN\DATA_MANAGEMENT\Data_Migration\active_transportation_projects
We (Diana and others) discussed with the user that we may have a script that can help fix the broken layers, however we were getting assistance from a staff member not on our team. Since it's not their priority, they're helping we're not wanting to take up too much of their time. So if they can't get the script to work after a few hours of working on it, we'd scrap the idea of scripting it.
The scripting files are located here: G:\ATD\ATD_GIS\scratch
Diana sent me the email chain for what Nathan is asking for to get a background on the request. I also looked over the Mxd and script that is in the directory. Read up on fixing data sources in Mxds as I haven't needed to do this in the past.
Nathan is also requesting that the Access database be moved into another directory in the future.
There are 110 layers in his Mxd connected to 2 actual layers in the FGDB, with only one set to be moved to SDE (Projects). 99% of the (Project) layers have joins to the Access database. Fixing the connections to the Project layer will work with a script, but unsure at this time how we will automate how to reconnect the joins to the Access database after it is moved as the tables are not in the Mxd.
