Darker color to show the percentage of the homelessness population vs the percentage of the Travis population. Shelter population shown first to emphasize it. Notes: The data categories don't line up precisely. Age Notes: Focus on middle age since middle age is the largest population and is a larger percentage of the population. Additionally there is a much smaller percentage of youth and elderly individuals. https://public.tableau.com/profile/sarah.rodriguez#!/vizhome/Age-Travis/Age-Shelter Race Notes: Over representation of individuals who are Black, and additionally of Native Haiwaiian or Other Pacific Islander and American Indian or Alaskan Native. Under representation of individuals who identified as White or Asian in comparison to the larger population. https://public.tableau.com/profile/sarah.rodriguez#!/vizhome/Race-Travis/Race-Shelter Ethnicity Notes: Lower representation of individuals who identify as Hispanic or Latino. This has been a national pattern, but there has been a growth in recent years. The American Community Survey measures gender as a binary, and so there are no comparative numbers for the county.
