4 years ago I think this is a good idea! It’s true that press releases are very important for departments.
We don’t use this feature at the moment, but Wagtail has built in scheduling features for posts (should be in the settings tab for a page IIRC).
So atm you could create the page you mentioned (for flu season) as either a scheduled info or service page and that should do the trick! Happy to help explain/explore this.
