Evaluate digital asset management system(s) and user needs #42

User research to determine what City staff need to effectively use digital media on the website.

This may include a (workflow or technical) integration with Digital Asset Management Software (DAMS). CPIO has performed an evaluation of potential DAMS that would give City staff a shared searchable repository for managing digital assets not only for austin.gov use but also for use across other media. Here is their tool comparison.

It appears that Bynder is top contender from the comparison spreadsheet. @succarwagner, is that accurate?

Depending on when procurement is expected, we may also want to look at Airtable for digital asset management. They have a 20GB limit on their attachments, so I don't know if we expect to hit up on that, but there is a discussion of CDN integration.

@amenity, Bynder was indeed the top choice based on the traditional DAM api's that Lindsay reviewed. Merlin One was a close second. I'll look at Airtable's capabilities to see if they would meet user needs beyond integration. If you have any additional thoughts on that please let me know. Thanks.

hello all! has there been any more action on picking a DAMS? /cc @succarwagner

We're wondering how much effort we should put into optimizing images, etc rather than simply integrating to this new system
