Lack of prioritization framework. Meetings provide validation for work you're committing to. Meeting culture reinforces recency bias: the most recent meeting you had gives you a top priority.
No-meeting days aren't useful without a prioritization mechanism
I worked at a company where there was a CO-wide Asana. Never lack of clarity on priorities. Interview this CEO?
"When can you have this done by" is actually reinforcement of a lack of accountability.
What to do?
Do fewer things better
Articulate your personal priorities and repeat them. Use them as justification for why you can't commit to a follow-up in a meeting.
Ask others to help you reprioritize: "do you think this is more important than X that I also have on my plate"
"how much does it cost, and what are you comfortable trading off at equal cost"
"how much are you willing to spend"
