crashes #60

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Opening imame4all version 1.9 or 1.10 on iphone 3GS 3.1.3 firmware

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Gives "Loading.... please wait" message, then crashes back to home.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
imame4all version 1.9 or 1.10 on jailbroken firmware 3.1.3

Please provide any additional information below.
v1.8 and below are fine, but 1.9 and 1.10 crash as described above. Downgrading
back to 1.8 works, but I'd like to use the newer versions. Would have raised it
with 1.9's release but thought it would be fixed with next release so didn't -
unfortunately now 1.10 doesn't work either so I'm stuck.

Up to 1.8 need iOS 4.0 since uses new API features. Update your firmware.

Thanks for the info. Just FYI though, the cydia description still says 'a mame
emulator for all ios firmware, and the auto-report in cydia still says
'compatible with your OS'. It would be nice to maintain backwards compatibility
as many I know have stuck with the faster ios 3, but if not you should see
about updating the cydia source to reflect that 1.9 onwards is ios 4 only.

I have the same problem but in my I have installed the 1.9 version on a iPad
with iOS 4.3.2 and also get crashes.

I install it, I get a rom in the folder, I open it and it crashes before I even
can read the "Loading... please wait" message.

PS: might it help to add that this also happens to me with the snes4iphone
emulator? I know that these 2 aren't related, but better to add the info.

@xabier. Maybe completely uninstalling then going up to the latest release may
help you with imame4all, as proper ipad support was added more recently and is
likely still being tweaked.

It may be the same case with the SNES and other emulators too. I'd recommend
avoiding any of zodttd's emulators as I've found them all very unstable, and
instead go for the alternatives SNES9xAD etc.

Ok, I'll do that. I installed it using iexplorer by dragging the *.deb to the
cydia/media/autoinstall and rebooting (former iphone explorer), is there any
problem with that?

I got ifiles installed too, and if I can avoid it, I'd prefer not adding any
more pc<>ipad apps like Fugu, SSH or whatever, but if you tell me it's better
with one of them, I'll do that.

And yes, I'm also looking for the AD emulators (don't have wi-fi or inet on the
ipad, so I'll have to look for the *.deb), but well, after installing and
uninstalling a few apps yesterday, I just got tired, lol.

I'll try and give feedback about the results. Thanks for your attention.

@xabier. In my experience, installing using that autoinstall method is not
ideal and frequently caused problems. Straight through Cydia is the best way to
do it, or installing it as an .ipa through itunes. Doing things without an
internet connection on jailbroken idevices is tricky, as without cydia doing
updates to necessary system files and regular needed bug fixes you can run into
errors, just as you would on a PC if your Windows updates aren't done.
