The placeholder stays in the background and it behaves like normal text (in the screencast below after deleting the text I wrote I've selected the placeholder by pressing Cmd + A and then deleted it by pressing Backspace):

I'm using also the Refined GitHub extension, not sure if it does not interfere with the GH Writer in some way 🤔
