On "lrzip -lU gsy.tar", where the tar file was 37 GB big (an update of https://archive.org/download/ftp-ftp.hp.com_ftp1/gsy.zip ):

Failed to malloc ckbuf in hash_search Cannot allocate memory Fatal error - exiting

$ lrzip -V lrzip version 0.608 $ uname -a Linux i-00000355 3.2.0-53-virtual #81-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 22 21:21:26 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

4 GB RAM, disk volume on glusterfs (in case very slow I/O may be at fault).

On my desktop PC I managed to compress a 300 GB tar but not another 220 GB tar, even without -U:

$ lrztar -l softlib/software11 Failed to malloc ckbuf in hash_search Cannot allocate memory Fatal error - exiting

I've not yet uploaded a copy of it on archive.org, but it's this directory: ftp://ftp.hp.com/ftp1/pub/softlib/software11/
