Any chance of an alternate licence? - Apache etc? #1

Hi,

was very happy to find a Java based Tin Can Server implementation, as am looking to short-cut development of such a tool to integrate a LRS into an LMS I'm working with.

However, I see that you have chosen the GPL for this project, which means I'd have to do the same for my project, which I can't.

Any chance that you might consider an Apache License or similar allowing for commercial reuse of your code?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris --

Yep. We're a commercial house, and use Apache stuff for our commercial offerings all the time. I understand the licensing issue.

Give me a chance to discuss with the team, and feel free to follow up with me after our team meeting on Tuesday. I'd commit to follow up with you, but we're so damn busy right now I know better.

The package is in production use at this time, but I won't say it's 100% of the Spec. I believe Rheza, the developer who put it together, documented what was missing somewhere along the line. Did you see those notes in the package anywhere?

Rheza no longer works for Claresco, so it might be difficult for us to offer much support. On the other hand, I know where he is.

Tell me a bit about your product and your place in the industry, if you don't mind? We're a small (13-head) software development shop in Berkeley, CA.

Regards,

Brett D'Ambrosio Claresco Corporation

Thanks Brett,

fully understand the no support bit - I take that for given with FOSS, was thinking that if I could use the solution, I might be able to give back to the community a few bits along the way.

I'm working in the SAP/SuccessFactors area where I'm one of the lead proponents for what is called in SAP parlance the "extension space". Basically, taking the standard SAP/SuccessFactors solutions and extending them with additional functionality. - have a search for SuccessFactors Extensions and you should find some presentations, some of them by me.

TinCan/ExperienceAPI is one of the areas in which I see that the current SuccessFactors LMS solution could do with a little help. I'm investigating ways in which this could be done, and your project was high on the list as a stepping stone to getting there.

let me know when you can - I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks!

Chris
