Are spaces inwardly right after the dollar sign not supported? #8

I come from the following issue:

I would like to ask if such notation is not supported for a reason as I didn't encounter such problem in other implementations.

This rule was bought by Pandoc I think. https://pandoc.org/MANUAL.html#math
