This also required a significant refactor of parallelisation, documented in #27 .

~5x speedup in benchmarks.

Failure is because readthedocs hasn't updated their rust compiler since September 2021 (v1.55 is the only available version). Some transitive dependency (smartstring) needs 2021 edition features.
