New icon for application #23

Open cleac opened 4 years ago

For now, it is a real blocker that makes it impossible to release application for users to use while there is icon that looks close to previous icon.

For now, there is pretty decent proposal by @hanaral, which they had implemented in their repo: https://github.com/hanaral/tootle/

@hanaral, I generally like your proposal of icon, though for now I see a small issue regarding licensing: this repo is licensed under GPLv3, though your copy of code with new logo is licensed under BSD-2. While they seem to be compatible, it would be way better to have icon under the same license to any probably compatibility issues I can't see. Do you mind to license your icon under GPLv3 or MIT (which I know to be clearly compatible with GPL without any issues)?

hanaral commented 4 years ago

It’s perfectly fine for you to change the licence, I should have used GPL to begin with. I’ve been thinking of an even better design for the icon, I’ll see if I can put it on my repo soon.

There is always enough space for improvement, and I would be happy to have icon as good as possible. Though, it is better to have the application released soon, so I am curious, whether those changes will be radical or big enough.

I've finished the 128 icon, this is how it looks. I hope it's up to par 😅️, I'm going to downscale and redo the other ones now tootle

Whoa, that looks awesome! I really love how it looks like!

I have two small suggestions though:

  1. can you please remove the horn behind trunk? It's still icon and I think that this is unnecessary detail which will not be visible 😁
  2. if you are running linux, could you please post screenshots from this app to see, how will it look in different scales, so it is a bit easier to see those unnecessary details 😉 If you're not running Linux - just tell me, I can make this screenshot whenever you need it

iconsizes This is how the icons look without the left tusk, I've comitted them (along with the new github icon) to my git. I would also think that it would be good to come up a new name before you publish it. I know I've already said this but I think something like 'Trunky' would fit with the icon (to base the app's identity arount the elephants trunk).

Thanks! This looks pretty nice, I like it!

Speaking of name, I have one already, and it will work fine with logo you've proposed. It's "Olifant", proposed by Kev Quirk, and as far as I've posted polls, it is one people like the most.

If you mind, I'll apply the icon and submit application for a re-review to AppCenter

P.S. If you are interested, I can put your real name/pseudonyme to README as author of icon - just write me

Olifant is great, I have made some final minor adjustments to the icons so they are good to go! (The 64x64 icon was too small for a 64x64 icon, and I increased the darkness of all of their outlines) As for being credited, I would like it if I was just referred to as Han "FanOKnives" Aral in the README.

cleac commented 4 years ago

Sure. Also, can you please work on an empty icon please? It feels not contrast enough to be clearly visible

hanaral commented 4 years ago

Sorry for getting back to you so late, I will be able to start working on the icons in a couple of days as I have some work to finish up.

hanaral commented 4 years ago

OK, I've done some editing to the contrastyness of the icon, and I've updated it on my repository. Feel free to merge (or just copy&paste) the image in to main @cleac
