There is 3rd-party repository that has working ffmpeg https://github.com/clearfraction/distribution/
No longer any blockers for this, see https://www.phoronix.com/news/FFmpeg-6.1-Released.
This is natively supported in FFmpeg 6.1, and should be accounted for when Clear updates the package. A huge victory for everyone if mpv/vlc/any software can make use of the native VVD FFmpeg abilities!
I don't see any legal or technical issues to enabling Vulkan-based hardware decoding in (not)-ffmpeg, and any other software that supports it (browsers, mpv, etc.). 6.1 isn't quite out yet, not to mention ffmpeg in Clear Linux is still on the 4.x release, but other programs can be wired up for if/when it lands. At least the git version could be used to develop initial 6.x patches for Clear. This would finally allow Clear Linux to be usable OOTB for basic desktop tasks working with h264, h265, and AV1 files :) I know several packages/bundles will need to be updated to support this, and maybe a new desktop ISO could be made to show off the live system capabilities?
