After removing gnome and switching to xfce, I still get "clr-power" fails to start, ... "Failed to start Clear Linux Project for Intel Architecture power tweaks" Because I suppose xfce doesn't need upower.
Upower is dbus activated, so if nothing talks to it, you won't see it start. We did not integrate the components into Xfce that would trigger it, there actually is a plugin for that, though.
@mrkz have you seen this? upower doesn't do this for my boxes... maybe check telemetry?
I tried to reproduce this on my machine, but gnome-control-center doesn't hangs upon clicking Power or Devices. Anyway, I'm still seeing a problem with clr-power.service.
@ahkok don't think this is related to telemetry, I don't see the bundle installed in this system neither on mine.
clr-power-service tends to not fail silent...
.. if you have something from the journal please share

@fenrus75 pushed a fix for clr-power.service that should be available soon.
Bringing some information form duplicate issue reports (thanks @MattiaVerticchio for those extra info bits):

@a-schaefers @MattiaVerticchio if you could provide more info about the HW where this issue is happening, that'd be helpful.
Additionally, could you please try to run the upower service with the --verbose
option, that would gets us more information as well:
$ sudo systemctl edit --full upower.service
# you should modify the following line:
ExecStart=/usr/libexec/upowerd
# appending the --verbose option like:
ExecStart=/usr/libexec/upowerd --verbose
# then tell systemd to reload the configs:
$ sudo systemctl daemon-reload
# and restart the upower service:
$ sudo systemctl restart upower.service
This should tell us more about the failure.
@mrkz I no longer have clearlinux installed, sorry. I wish I had gathered more information while I was test driving it.
@MattiaVerticchio if you could provide more info about the HW where this issue is happening, that'd be helpful.
Sure! :smile: Right now I'm on release 28680 and the issues #558 and #559 are not present. Here's the hardware info:

Additionally, could you please try to run the upower service with the --verbose option, that would gets us more information as well
I edited the upower.service
, but after that, running sudo systemctl restart upower.service
gives no output.
Should I restart the system or rollback on the version on which I had the issue to test it?
@MattiaVerticchio The edit on upower.service was to gather more information, but if you mention that the issue is no longer present, can you please confirm if the gnome-control-center hang is also fixed? If so we can close this issue now.
Thanks for your input! :tada:

Yes I confirm, the Power and Devices menu entries in gnome-control-center
don't freeze anymore :smile:

@MattiaVerticchio thanks for the update, I'm closing this issue then since it was the last remaining bit. Should you have this issue again, please do not hesitate to communicate properly by opening a new bug report.
@a-schaefers @MattiaVerticchio Thanks for your report!
The issue unfortunately also happens on Ubuntu 20.04 (Couldn't connect to proxy: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktop.UPower: Failed to activate service 'org.freedesktop.UPower': timed out (service_start_timeout=25000ms) )
libupower-glib1 removal didn't help.
Mysql start did not work and in /var/log/mysql/error.log I saw: [MY-000067] [Server] unknown variable 'query_cache_limit=1M'.

Describe the bug On a Dell latitude e6430 fresh clearlinux install-- I chose all of the desktop related options from the bundles section of the installer-- the gnome-control-center hangs for 10-15 seconds upon clicking "Devices" or "Power". Below is the output of systemctl --failed and terminal output from the gnome-control-center while it was happening in real-time.
