Description We are not able to watch Netflix or listen to song on Spotify with Firefox.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Boot up Live Desktop image
  2. Install Clear Linux
  3. Open Firefox from the left side of the desktop
  4. Netflix: a) Go to www.netflix.com/login b) Log in to your account c) Play any movie or TV series
  5. Spotify: a) Go to https://open.spotify.com/browse b) Log in to your account c) Play any song

Current behavior

For Netflix, it shows the error below:

firefox-netflix

For Spotify, we just cannot play any song. When we click the play icon, nothing happens.

Expected behavior Video should play without issue on Netflix and song should play without issue on Spotify.

Environment:

Additional Context Based on these two sources: 1) Netflix: https://itsfoss.com/netflix-firefox-linux/ 2) Spotify: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Other-Partners-Web-Player-etc/Spotify-in-Firefox-Doesn-t-work/td-p/1669454

For Netflix/Spotify to work on Firefox on Linux, Playing DRM content should be enabled and certain plugins should be Always Activate. Here are the settings from my Firefox:

firefox-drm firefox-plugins

This is a known limitation, just like the totem issue, and essentially the same feature.

This is planned to be resolved, but, this will take time, and not something we can fix in a few weeks time.
