Change printer format #147

Closed YvesMattle closed 1 year ago

Hi all, we wanted to use Printing Tool NG to print our orders that come through our website.

Ex. customer orders something on the website (Woocommerce). We get an email that we print via Thunderbird and Printing Tool NG. This works great, but unfortunately when printing the order we always use too much paper...

See picture: Image 2022-11-11 at 10 34 13

Is there a way to print only the text that is in the email, without the date at the end. Or just to get rid of this empty section?

Best Regards Yves

@YvesMattle I'll have one Pizza Bella for the solution ;-)

Thanks for using ptng! I have multiple users doing orders this way. So this usually comes down to tweaking all the necessary printer settings.

Currently with Thunderbird 91+ the preview allows margin setup, but not the headers and footers. These can be changed by going into the advanced preference editor. I am hoping by making the footer entries blank you will make the output less. You can also ref https://github.com/cleidigh/printing-tools-ng/issues/102

I may request more info if the above does not solve the issue. @cleidigh

First of all, please provide with your environment. OS and version, Thunderbird version, PrintingTools NG version, etc. This can be found in the PrintingTools NG "Help".

Is there a way to print only the text that is in the email, without the date at the end.

Second, there is a way to print only the text (body) of the message. This can be done with Thunderbird's standard print function. Just drag the text you want to print and then print.

The following options are available in PrintingTools NG 2.1.5. You can also hide the date.

PTNG options

Or just to get rid of this empty section?

Printing only the first page may solve the problem. However, there is no option to print only one page each time, so you will need to specify it each time.(Please see #139) Also, if you want to print the same way automatically instead of manually, you will need to consider other methods.

Third.

I see from your photo that you have enabled printing of the footer, but the following parameter cannot be left blank in the Thunderbird 102 version. &D = Daytime The reason for this is that that parameter entry has been removed from "about:config", as noted in #102.

If the version of Thunderbird is 91.0 series, it can be deleted (blank). ・print.print_footerright = &D --> null(blank) ・print.printer_XXX.print_footerright = &D --> null(blank) note: XXX = printer name

Fourth.

If you prefer to hide all of the headers and footers along with the date, uncheck "Print headers and footers" in Thunderbird's Print Preview dialog. This is the method described in #138 and is a standard Thunderbird feature.

@YvesMattle Excellent, love saving paper! Just for reference which preferences did you change? Also I am working on ptng having the options to change margins and headers and footers. @cleidigh

@cleidigh I have edited the two footers (print.print_footerleft, print.print_footerright) in the advanced preference editor so that they are empty.

Ahh you have no idea how much I would love to do that. Not only do I love pizza, but travel anywhere... Cannot now being disabled. It's actually one reason I enjoy supporting users around the world. So cheers and look out for the next version with this capability. @cleidigh

Hey just a quick question, do you know a way I can keep the program Thunderbird always open? We have a computer in the restaurant that is always online, but still the Thunderbird closes over night sometimes....

@YvesMattle TB should not shutdown, there is nothing like a sleep timer. I never asked about versions os, tb, and ptng. Also are you using FiltaQuila to auto print, if so which version? If i had to guess TB is closing /crashing due to resource issues. Do you have anything that indicates a crash? Any other software that could conflict? @cleidigh

Filemanger --> v 3.6.1 Printtoolsng --> v 2.1.5 Thunderbird --> v 102.4.2

I think the POS software that is on the PC brings the whole crash, I have to talk to the dealer. Would you then here but give notice, thank you already times! :)

cleidigh commented 1 year ago

@YvesMattle It's not the best solution, but there are many utilities that can monitor programs and restart them if they crash. Your dealer may know. @cleidigh
