Metadata fixer like in Banshee, but better. Fixing duplicate artists, songs and albums in the library. i.e.: Pat Metheny and Pat metheny or Iron Maiden and IronMaiden

Clementine should suggest the name with both capitals and suggest the name with a space for the second exameple. An additional automatic check on last.fm for example would be handy. Or an option to get the right data from last.fm and combine all the duplicates to one.

try the duplicates view under the wrench icon, near the library's search text entry

I have done that. But what I mean is an extension to that feature. As far as I know (v0.71) this only works for song titles and is only shows them but does not suggest solutions by itself or it doesnt find solutions in internet databases. Again I refer to the Banshee feature.

First of all I think the duplicates view is a great feature. I have got rid of loads of duplicates in my collection as a result of this. However, I do agree with Svndepoo in that it would be nice to have an extension to this. For example it would group the following together as 'possible' duplicates: The Rolling Stones The rolling stones The Rolling stones The Rollingstones Rolling Stones Rolling stones rolling stones Rollingstones

Yes exacly what I mean ;) Now there is a duplicates view for songtitles wich is already, indeed, a great feature.

It's my own fault for having a lot of incorrect artist names, album names, song titles but I think i'm not the only one. For the example of The Rolling Stones, Clementine could automatically suggest the right one without any use of an internet database since most names and titles have words starting with a capital. But it would be nice to get more suggestions via a database.

OK, I'm going to reopen this.

Detecting such duplicates and also, something you didn't mention, simple mistakes like "Rlling Stones" is quite easy. What's harder is that the feature requires some slick presentation of results.

I think it's a plugin material.

PS. If this gets implemented, this won't be another library view (performance reasons). Possibly a separate dialog window (like the one for organizing files).

Thanks. Indeed, e new window would be better for that so that multiple suggestions for one item can be more usefully visualized.

Isn't there something from LastFM that could help with this? I remember way back when I used Songbird I used to sometimes get a "keep your stats clean" message when I scrobbled and incorrectly spelled artist.

See here: http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/30452763/Rolling+Stones+15286997.png

What if I would like to see the duplicate artists grouped under the library view without having to 'fix' the tags, because I'd rather not change my files? That would be the case for me.

Just to add more examples to the discussion, remember that there are also duplicates like This Day & Age / This Day and Age W.A.S.P / W.A.S.P. / WASP Florence + the Machine / Florence and the Machine The Crüxshadows / The Cruexshadows / The Cruxshadows and so on, so it's not just case sensitivity.
