Many possible use cases of Clementine are especially suited to interacting with remote controls (e.g. party mode, at home listening to your desktop's song library while doing other sings, podcast listening). The LIRC daemon and its kde4 frontend, kremotecontrol, is currently a fairly robust way of 1) enabling powerful remote control support in Linux, 2) integrating alongside other applications (centralized configuration of all LIRC applications) and sound systems (e.g. pulseaudio-module-lirc). Clementine would greatly benefit from adding lirc support and kremotecontrol action templates, since it would 1) gain more feature parity with Amarok 2.x and VLC that already have kremotecontrol profiles, etc., 2) ease usage and configuration of the aforementioned features (thus eliminating many unnecessary bug reports/issues from users who'd like these features but don't know how to add them), and 3) improve interaction with many of the features that Clementine provides/will provide.

Smplayer has a nice integration of LIRC. http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=124483 I would love to see it in Clementine.

A workarround is create a custom bash script and use qdbus interface to interact with clementine. You will have to create 2 files: $HOME/.lirc/clementine and $HOME/bin/lirc-clementine.sh I attached my archives as example, so you can figure out how to do this.

It would be great if I could use my Apple Remote with Clementine.

Support all the activity concerning this issue - it will be really cool to have LIRC support
