Did you get the package from the Ubuntu repositories? I think they disable the Spotify plugin downloader for weird legal reasons. You can download a proper package from the website ( http://www.clementine-player.org/ ) or from the official PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:me-davidsansome/clementine sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install clementine
Status: Invalid

Hello, I would appreciate if you had sent me a mail before setting the issue I posted to "invalid". The solution you suggested is not working for me, as I haven't used the Ubuntu repos in the first place. I also have the same problem on my netbook running Xubuntu 13.04, and I installed from your repos, too. Do you know a fix for that? I would really like to use Clementine, but only if my online accounts are working with it. Best regards from Germany, Jan

Huh that's weird, the Raring packages in the PPA were definitely built with the spotify downloader. Can you give me the output of "dpkg -s clementine"?

There you go:

The "Maintainer: Ubuntu Developers" means that you've got Ubuntu's package installed. Please remove it and make sure you're installing the one from the website or the PPA.

I also can't log into spotify. i'm using mint 15. and adding the ppa & reinstalling did not resolve the issue.
the plugin is not installed and i cannot find any way to install it...

Same here. "Download" button is missing.
From chaos.co...@gmail.com on October 18, 2013 20:26:49
Running Ubuntu 13.10, same thing here. I tried installing it manually by copying the blob and plugin file to ~/.config/Clementine/spotifyblob but it's still not working :(

Seem to have the same problem:

I am also having this problem. I installed it from the PPA and from a download on the site and the button is still not there, nor is a manual copy of the blob/libspotify stuff to the spotifyblob folder working. dpkg -s clementine output Package: clementine Status: install ok installed Priority: optional Section: sound Installed-Size: 21705 Maintainer: David Sansome me@davidsansome.com Architecture: amd64 Version: 1.1.1-646-g5306c29~raring Depends: libc6 (>= 2.14), libcdio13 (>= 0.83), libfftw3-double3, libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1), libgl1-mesa-glx | libgl1, libglew1.8 (>= 1.8.0), libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.31.8), libgpod4 (>= 0.6.0), libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0 (>= 0.10.23), libgstreamer0.10-0 (>= 0.10.24), liblastfm1, libmtp9 (>= 1.1.0), libprotobuf7, libqjson0 (>= 0.7.1), libqt4-dbus (>= 4:4.5.3), libqt4-network (>= 4:4.6.1), libqt4-opengl (>= 4:4.5.3), libqt4-sql (>= 4:4.6.1), libqtcore4 (>= 4:4.8.0), libqtgui4 (>= 4:4.8.0), libstdc++6 (>= 4.6), libtag1c2a (>= 1.8), libx11-6, zlib1g (>= 1:1.1.4), gconf2 (>= 2.28.1-2), libqt4-sql-sqlite, gstreamer0.10-plugins-base, gstreamer0.10-plugins-good, gstreamer0.10-alsa | gstreamer0.10-audiosink, gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly, libprojectm-data | projectm-data, libqca2-plugin-ossl
From Williams...@gmail.com on October 24, 2013 14:10:04
just looked at the debug output and it is looking for the blob in a subfolder, not in the root of the spotifyblob folder
Spotify local blob path: "~/.config/Clementine/spotifyblob/version14-64bit/blob" I put the .so and blob in there and now it works.
From ItsPengu...@gmail.com on October 24, 2013 14:22:40
same here I think I did something similar ^
From dalton....@gmail.com on October 24, 2013 14:24:19
Thanks, also worked for me on Elementary OS
From Williams...@gmail.com on October 24, 2013 14:27:20
Last post, had to chmod +x the blob file to make it work. my ~/.config/Clementine/spotifyblob/version14-64bit/blob folder contains -rwxrwxr-x 565K blob -rw-rw-r-- 2.5M libspotify.so.12
and it now works
From wery67...@gmail.com on October 24, 2013 16:22:31
This solution worked, just titled version14-32bit for my version
From wery67...@gmail.com on October 24, 2013 16:29:29
ok, it said the plugin is installed, now it is just eternally trying to load my spotify account...
From jones.br...@gmail.com on October 25, 2013 16:17:32
I've followed all instructions to get the plugin to work as well, bu tam experiencing the "eternally trying to load" problem.
From jones.br...@gmail.com on October 25, 2013 18:30:15
OK I forgot to rename the .so file to libspotify.so.12 It now works correctly and I can log in.
From dalton....@gmail.com on October 27, 2013 15:48:01
@jones and Williams Sorry would it be OK to post all your steps after downloading Clementine - I've tried to follow everything but am stuck at the "eternally trying to load problem", and am not sure where my mistake is. (btw I do have a premium account, and am using the proper Spotify username number, not just Facebook logon) I'm a GUI user but very keen to learn terminal (hence don't really understand Williams chmod +x step)
Many thanks
PS has anybody seen any response from the Clementine developers about this problem?
From fuuze...@fuuzetsu.co.uk on October 27, 2013 19:48:44
He means navigate to the directory with the blob (using the terminal) and run ‘chmod +x blob’. If you need further help, please don't hesitate to join the #clementine IRC channel on Freenode and ask. You can use the webclient at https://webchat.freenode.net/?channels You might have to wait a while before someone sees your message though so don't get discouraged. If you highlight me personally (type in ‘Fuuzetsu’) I might be able to attend to you myself.
PS has anybody seen any response from the Clementine developers about this problem? The developers see every message on every issue. If they don't comment then they don't have anything to say but you can be sure they are aware.
From davidsansome on October 27, 2013 20:23:20
Ok so I feel pretty stupid. It looks like I broke the downloader button while I was trying to make spotify support mandatory. I'll fix it and probably make a 1.2.1 release.
