AT first probably just text "Volume: XY%" will be sufficient (for me it's even preferable in comparison with text + bar).

in windows (7 and xp) mouse scrolling over tray icon still doesn't work :(

The option to enable this behaviour is available in Preferences->Notifications->Show a notification when I change the volume For Windows, unfortunately that's a Qt limitation
