Fix security issues with previous image creation implementation #39

It suddenly occurred to me that while moving from testing to implementation, I somehow shook off my usual paranoia and let some somewhat iffy code through. This PR adds the fail safes that should have been included from the outset.

Due to the sensitive nature of this, I'll merge this PR immediately.
