@rdstern - Yes, I agree with you this is very important as an output (or product) of a CDMS.
This what WMO refereed to as Discovery Metadata ,it helps users or customers to know the kind of records existing in the NMSs if it is posted on the website and it is free information
Hi @Fortunata good to hear from you again. Just to add that, through Samuels' presentation on Tuesday, we saw that there were quite a large number of enhancements that it would be good to include in CLIMSOFT, before the release in March/April next year.
But there isn't much time, so we will have to work efficiently and prioritise, both what is essential before the release and also where it is done. For example, items like double entry, see #264 need to be done in CLIMSOFT, but products, like good displays (in tables and graphs) of metadata could be either in CLIMSOFT or (in the short term) could be through R-Instat.
In the longer term they will all presumably be part of CLIMSOFT. This will either be through producing them directly in CLIMSOFT, or by transferring some of the R-Instat dialogues into CLIMSOFT.
@smachua - There is an issue of permission when exporting metadata and data from the Data entry forms via the export command button as a csv file output (see below):
@mhabimana I will resolve it.
Resolved through PR #622
The facilities for exporting data have improved considerably since Version 3.2. There also needs to be similar facilities to export the meta-data. This is the station information, in particular. Also element information, and possibly instrument information.
Further possibilities include "inventory"-type information, i.e. the element information for specified stations, including the length of the record for each element and information on missing values. This is particularly important if data are to be marketed. Often the cost of data depends on the number of observations and this should usually therefore be real observations. I assume Met services do not charge for missing values!
