Eating our own dog food is indeed the most important reason for Slate to be deployed as a couch app. In general, the ticket system is not a place to have discussions, but a way to record defects and feature requests.
Any particular reason this is deployed as a CouchApp, other than to eat our own dog food? It might make more sense to deploy this to Bluemix (or another PaaS) instead. We can still use Git hooks to automatically deploy on push (there's a built-in way to do this with IBM DevOps Services and Bluemix).
