Speed up AMI creation #242

New customer here :wave: - It'd be really great if I could release faster to ap-southeast-1 (Singapore).

The UI said faster releasing/deploy optimising is available for some zones, can you tell me when it might reach ap-southeast-1?

We have now begun on-boarding customers to our new AMI creation module. Initial results indicate average AMI creations times under 30 seconds in all supported regions.

Opt-in instructions:

  1. Add these additional permissions to your Boxfuse IAM cross-account role: ebs:* and kms:* (the latter is needed internally by EBS to produce encrypted snapshots)
  2. Add a comment to this issue with your Boxfuse account id to get opted in

Update 2021-03-01: This is now the default for new users. Update 2021-03-05: Average AMI creation time across EU, US and AP regions across all customers that opted in: 14.6s

Important:

All remaining accounts will be automatically opted in on 2021-03-29 and must add the ebs:* and kms:* permissions before that date to be able to continue to create AMIs from then on.

This has now been fully rolled out. All remaining accounts have now been moved to our new module.
