Metadata is available to the put step via environment variables. Evaluating the params allows expansion of any environment variables present. This allows, e.g. dynamic construction of a URL back to the job page.
also, quote all the variables. Safety first.

I've validated it for my use cases so I'd like to cut a final release as soon as possible. I understand if you want to try it yourself first though
