This reverts commit a04e411134e147ddae70931f26c0970af638ad8f, reversing changes made to 51537a6cc9eb9a631bce0ab08f1f99bd5dce16aa.

I think we didn't communicate well on this one. We will need to revert this change so that we can publish 1.9.8 and 1.9.9 before.
