It would be nice to automatically search VT for IP's

You can actually! There is a Virustotal IPV4 lookup available in the community integrations here: https://github.com/cloudtracer/ThreatPinchLookup/wiki/3.0---Community-Shared-Integrations

Eventually it will be put into the core apis
