They key is to have flexibility in the LED strip at the ball of the foot.
For us they only last about 40 hours out at Burning Man, although we are dancing and riding bikes and generally struggling through the desert. Usually its the front strip that fails (near the toe), or sometimes a single solder somewhere on the strip breaks. You can cut it and repair it, although not easily in the field.

Great Project! I wanted to see some photos to get a little more detail on how you wired the shoes to maintain flexibility, but the G+ photos with build notes link is dead. Are your photos and notes hosted anywhere else? Thanks!
