[CM Birds P705] Picus viridis - Species Identification #14

Picus viridis does not occur in south India. Most likely, this is a record of Lesser Yellownape or Streak-throated Woodpecker. Kindly recheck identification.

This specimen was part of a very early collection obtained from a taxidermist/dealer when he joined the museum in 1897 (Frederick Webster). It was exchanged to H. K. Coale in 1914 and as far as I could search on the web, I could not locate where this specimen was later catalogued. We do not presently have this specimen in the collection so cannot check it.

Interesting case study here. I wonder if it would be worth including exactly what you said here in remarks so that any future questions on that subject would not arise (or that someone interested in puzzles might discover and report the whereabouts of the specimen today).
