Several variables use the formulation depth: sum in cell_methods strings: this does not appear to be strictly compliant with the text of the CF Convention, which says In the specification of this attribute, name can be a dimension of the variable, a scalar coordinate variable, a valid standard name, or the word "area", but then later states with more precision that latitude and longitude are the only standard names which can be used in this way.
There is a reasonable case for extending the convention to allow similar usage for depth and height, but as it stands the usage is invalid.
The CF Checker does not object, so there is no plan to adjust the CMIP6 Data Request.
