The naming of soga, bigthetaoga, thetaoga (both short and long names) suggest that they are intended to be global averages of depth dependent fields so, bigthetao and thetao, but the variables have no depth coordinate.
This means that soga is an exact duplication of sosga; the latter is clearly defined as a global average of a surface field.
This apparent error is also present for soga and thetaoga in the CMIP5 standard output workbook (bigthetao was a new variable in CMIP6).
