By default, emotes play their sound through the ship speakers, or through boomboxes. You can change this in the config to be played on the actual player instead.

Did you figure it out? You may have to find the location for the configs on your computer yourself. It may be different depending if you use r2modman, or if you're using mods through the files alone.

You can also manage your configs from within the game by using the LethalConfig mod. Remember, most configs won't update until you relaunch the game.
