Fix minor C++ problems in DR #287

In this merged PR by the CMS SW group https://github.com/cms-sw/cmssw/pull/44936 , reviewer Vininn made a few non-implemented suggestions for style improvements to the DR code. These should be checked and implemented if sensible.
