1 month ago I think what's happening is the sprite for the NVG doesn't update properly and displays as your helmet in the top UI rather than the NVG visor icon, so at a glance it'll appear that your NVG disappeared, but it's just a helmet sprite now. When you click it again it'll go back to normal.
I play FTL a fair amount and am regularly made aSL and have not had the NVG completely disappear on me - the above is what I think happened to you.

Description of the bug
Hey i dont know if this is intended or not, but the fireteams leaders have the option to buy an NVG but, it seems like if the FTL is promoted to L, the NVG option disapears.
What's the difference with what should have happened?
I expect to not lose the NVG when i am promoted.
How do we reproduce this bug?
Step 1- Buy NVG and put it on helmet Step 2- Promote the FTL
