Wiki workspace for obo related groups #70

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
The new CTSA ontology group is requesting some wiki workspace on the obo wiki
to highlight and comment on translationally relevant ontologies. Seems since
coordinated by mostly obo folks, that we can keep this close and use the obo
wiki? . They could, of course, do this anywhere. However, use of the obo wiki
for such purposes could be mutually advantageous in that it helps provide
interaction between the different communities, visibility for the new group,
and usage of obo ontologies.

To be discussed on tech group:
what to do with associated projects?
can be set up in obofoundry wiki but with different look and feel?
Note that ideally we could address this issue soon.

Note that the obo wiki currently doesn't allow self-registration due to spam.
Would you or someone else be willing to manually add all their accounts (and
help them out when they lose them etc)?

There's currently no way to change the look and feel of the obofoundry.org wiki.

I thought the idea was to have a landing page on the obo foundry website and
from there redirect to their own wiki. That would allow for the group to easily
maintain their content, have their own look and feel and not confuse users,
while showing close ties with the OBO foundry.
Would something like that work?

I think that could work nicely. I think the main thing is to enable those that
would like a close affiliation with the foundry a place to put up some info,
this would work fine.

Thanks,
Melissa

ok - Maybe the next step would be for the CTSA group to create their own wiki
and add content, and/or simultaneously think about what they would want to post
on the OBO wiki.
I guess we could have an extra menu item at
http://obofoundry.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page, which would be something like
1.7 Affiliated efforts (or projects, or additional resources or...)
This would lead to a page on the OBO wiki with a short description of the
resource and then redirection to their own wiki. Maintenance on the OBO wiki
side would be minimal, and the CTSA group could have their own look and feel
and set of users.

From Bill, April 17th:

So per the tracker we will establish our own Wiki infrastructure and the OBO
Wiki will link to it.

We are fine with that. We hope to have a wiki established with overarching
structure and our own projects in it by the next CTSOAG meeting.

We will let you know the link when we are ready to be linked to.
