Project Title

Fluentd & Fluent Bit CI , Arm bare metal machines

Briefly describe the project (i.e., what is the detail of what you're planning to do with these servers?)

We are currently extending our CI and Gitlab is one of our running options, we need Arm servers to get Gitlab CI Runners.

In addition, we need another machine for development and testing purposes.

Is the code that you’re going to run 100% open source? If so, what is the URL or URLs where it is located? What is your association with that project?

Fluentd! :)

What kind of machines and how many do you expect to use (see: https://www.packet.com/bare-metal/)?

We need two machines of this type:

https://www.packet.com/cloud/servers/c1-large-arm/

  1. CI
  2. dev, manual testing and packaging.

What OS and networking are you planning to use (see: https://support.packet.com/kb/articles/supported-operating-systems)?

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is fine.

Any other relevant details we should know about?

I would have imagined that you had hundreds of these Arm servers lying around your office, propping up desks, etc., but certainly +1.

taylorwaggoner commented 5 years ago

@edsiper, I've invited you to the project in Packet. Let me know the email addresses of any others you'd like to add to the project. Thanks!

edsiper commented 5 years ago

@dankohn haha, no servers at my ~home office :)

@taylorwaggoner thanks, would you please add Masahiro Nakagawa masa@treasure-data.com ? (@repeatedly)

thanks :)

taylorwaggoner commented 5 years ago

@edsiper @repeatedly, I've added masa@treasure-data.com to the project as well. Thanks!

Reopening as we have some changes to make for this project due to original aarch64 systems going offline and access to new hardware, as well as expansion of the scope of the ask beyond the original 2 machines to the current 8 machines, and new email and contact information for everyone.

@hh @jeefy can you work with me to navigate a refresh of this project? and @edsiper we are super happy to support the current effort, just need to refresh the fleet, especially because the c2.large.arm and c1.large.arm systems are both going to be unobtanium very soon.

jeefy commented 2 years ago

@vielmetti Have you been able to talk to/ping the Fluent folks or do we need to reach out via other channels?

vielmetti commented 1 year ago

@jeefy I have not heard from the Fluent folks since the May 6 outreach here, we're going to need to reach out via other channels.

This migration is completed, closing the issue.

Heya @edsiper -- @vielmetti and I were looking through Equinix usage and noticed multiple of your machines have been off for a bit. Since Equinix is bare metal, "off" machines are still reserved and eat up some of their pool. Is there anything we can do to help out with provisioning resources just-in-time then deprovisioning them once not needed? :) We're both happy to nerd out and help with this.

Additionally, I saw that there was what appeared to be a server meant for serving artifacts. We (CNCF) are soon to be rolling out a CDN offering for projects and am curious if you'd be interested once it's ready?

vielmetti commented 7 months ago

The servers that had been "off" have been deleted, except for two systems used for benchmarking. We'll revisit benchmarking equipment questions for Q1 2024.

I think we can close this one for now.
