Job Title
Sr. Software Engineer - Open Source
Project Title (i.e., a summary of what do you want to do, not what is the name of the open source project you're working with)
Performance tests for OpenTelemetry
Briefly describe the project (i.e., what is the detail of what you're planning to do with these servers?)
We want to experiment with private servers for OpenTelemetry Go and OpenTelemetry Collector Contrib performance tests. The tests currently run in GitHub workflows, but report inconsistent results. By running the tests on private hardware we hope to produce more consistent, trustworthy results.
Long term, other OpenTelemetry Special Interest Groups may also uses the machines for their performance tests.
Is the code that you’re going to run 100% open source? If so, what is the URL or URLs where it is located? What is your association with that project?
Yes. https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-go https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-collector-contrib I am a member of OpenTelemetry and contributor to both projects.
What kind of machines and how many do you expect to use (see: https://metal.equinix.com/product/servers/)?
c3.small 1 for now. If we have success with Go and Collector Contrib we may request more.
What operating system and networking are you planning to use?
Some Linux, likely ubuntu.
Any other relevant details we should know about?
Issue for Go performance tests Issue for Collector Contrib performance tests
