KubeDB

Briefly describe the project

KubeDB (https://kubedb.com) is a collection of operators for running databases on Kubernetes.

Which members of the CNCF community and/or end-users would benefit from your work?

Anybody who wants to run databases on Kubernetes will be benefited from this effort.

Is the code that you’re going to run 100% open source? If so, what is the URL or URLs where it is located?

https://github.com/kubedb

What kind of machines and how many do you expect to use (see: https://www.packet.net/bare-metal/)?

x1.small.x86 - 2 c1.large.arm - 2

We plan to run concourse.ci on one machine and use the other one to dynamically spin up a kubernetes cluster and test setup.

What OS and networking are you planning to use (see: https://help.packet.net/technical/infrastructure/supported-operating-systems)?

Ubuntu 16.04/18.04 and Calico

Please state your contributions to the open source community and any other relevant initiatives

We have developing KubeDB project in the open since early 2017.

How will this testing advance cloud native computing (specifically containerization, orchestration, microservices or some combination).

This will help us run our test infrastructure for KubeDB project

Any other relevant details we should know about while preparing the infrastructure?

None that I can think of.

Thanks a lot @dankohn @taylorwaggoner !

tamalsaha commented 5 years ago

@taylorwaggoner , is it possible to get access to the packet project for my team mates who are also working on this project?

taylorwaggoner commented 5 years ago

@tamalsaha yes, it is. Please send me their email addresses and I can get them added. Thanks!

tamalsaha commented 5 years ago

Thanks @taylorwaggoner . What is your email address?

taylorwaggoner commented 5 years ago

Thanks, @tamalsaha. I have sent invitations to Packet to your team members.

@tamalsaha hope you're doing well. I wanted to followup on this project and see if the resources are still in use for the original project? Also, for the dynamic setup, I wonder if you can leverage machines more ephemerally (spin up / tear down)?

@vielmetti can you please review with @taylorwaggoner. thanks!

vielmetti commented 2 years ago

Reopen for review - this project is one of the top few users of CNCF CIL infra, and it would be good to get a status report from @tamalsaha to see how things are going and to review resource consumption.

tamalsaha commented 2 years ago

Thanks for contacting us. We have been using these resources as GH actions runner. It has been very help for small projects like ours.

Checking if there are any updates on this issue

jeefy commented 3 months ago

Heya @tamalsaha -- Unfortunately we're restricting our Equinix account to be CNCF projects only. Because of that, we need KubeDB to remove their footprint out of Equinix by May 15th, 2024. Come Mid-May we will be deleting the resources and the accounts, so we don't want you to lose any data.

Plus side, GitHub has done a fantastic job expanding GHA runners, so hopefully this isn't a major blip for y'all.

Happy to discuss further. Thanks!

cc @vielmetti

tamalsaha commented 3 months ago

Sounds good.

jeefy commented 2 months ago

I've shut down the machines, and intend to delete them Monday, May 20th. If you have any data that needs to be recovered please do so before then.

tamalsaha commented 2 months ago

Feel free to delete them right away!

My thanks to CNCF/Packet/Equinix for their generous support for this long. Much appreciated!
