Virtual Event Platform (Bevy): CNCF KCD Munich

Hi @mkorbi - allow me to introduce myself as a newest KCD program manager on the CNCF side (I just started in June).

Being that your CFP closes tomorrow, August 16, I want to check-in to see if you want it to close 12am PDT (currently set to this), or 12am Munich time which would be 3:00pm PDT tomorrow.

• Audra and @mkorbi connected via email to review their lineup which was sent to me on September 12.
• They have at least 4 non-male speakers
• They are also using Eventbrite for external ticketing

Notes from retrospective meeting with @mkorbi on 10/27

Pros:

• Happy with food at venue (focused on it, due to running joke)
• Bowling for evening event was GREAT for interaction. Organizer took the initiative of mixing people for engagement
• Diversity was good (19%), and culture background is easy due to access to Munich They even had a speaker with a mental disability Offered one diversity ticket that was given to a University Munich student who runs a "Women in Computer Science" group
• High-quality swag (sustainably-made bags and pencils made with dissolving plastic)
• Wi-Fi was strong other than 10 minutes of internet audit

Cons:

• Location wasn't optimal (not large enough for F&B and booths), but still was well received by attendees
• Lead scanning was hard with eventbrite but there were workarounds
• Complaints around usage of coffee cups with sponsor logos on them (even though eco-friendly)
• Didn't have enough budget to get a videographer BUT they are going to ask the working student to do overdub captured audio over slides.

Future goals

• Workshops in a different room away from F&B ** Make main conference 1-hour shorter if workshops are on the same day
• Looking for two more organizers
• IDEA: Would like to run a fundraiser for Ukraine organizations (paws for Ukraine, rebuilding and teaching, and another). Speakers could be -- Digital minister of Ukraine -- GitLab founders (from Ukraine) -- Kelsey Hightower (k8s influencer)

Feedback for CNCF

• Stickers would be nice (sticker mule for quality)
• Would be great to have the speaker bureau (good to reach out to other countries) -- Thankfully in the works for 2023
