Academic Mode Showcase #525

Closed nikolaydubina closed 3 months ago

nikolaydubina commented 4 months ago

Hello,

I have developed a number of features we need for Neuroscience use case.

I am opening this PR to showcase and pick which features you think make sense to merge into cncf/landscape2. Once picked, I can open separate dedicated PRs for each feature.

You can also try them out yourself at: https://neuroscience-landscape.com

Please tell me if there is interest in any of these features! Thank you! And than's once again for the CNCF/landscape2 core!

Scholars details

In the same style as repositories.

GitHub Organization stats

This is a bit slow. With 700 repositories for me it took around 20min and did not hit GitHub rate limiting. But could be larger for CNCF obviously. If so, it is possible to use only "fast" basic orgnaization stats.

Location

Many labs and orgs do not have crunchbase, but want location.

Filter by tags

It makes lots of sense to filter projects by any of tags.

Feature by tags

There are many different entities to be featured. Most basic form is to feature by either of tags.

Thanks @nikolaydubina, great work! πŸŽ‰

For now we'll hold on a bit before incorporating any of these features. Some of them are specific to the academic environment and probably don't fit that well in our ecosystem. Other features are quite interesting, but we may need to use a different approach in our case. For example, you can already filter by tag in the CNCF landscape, but a TAG has a different meaning in the CNCF ecosystem πŸ˜… (this would apply to filters and featured items).

In any case, thank you very much, we really appreciate the offer!

I wanted to let you know that we've plans to make some important changes to the card view mode (probably next week). We'll be adding the ability to select all groups, new forms of classifying cards and some options to sort them. At the moment we always classify cards by category, but we'll introduce new classifications and the ability to not classify at all (which is helpful when applying some filters). We're jumping between a few projects, but you can expect new features every now and then πŸ™‚
