filled this out quickly - there is more to talk about but here we go so far 😄:
+1 to what @leonardpahlke already shared! and a few more things –
START DOING: sharing Sustainability Week a lot earlier; I may have missed the details from last year but as a meet-up organizer myself, I'd love to start learning about such initiatives ~3 months early if possible in order to accommodate possible backlog of speakers + have enough time to find relevant speakers
IDEAS: not sure if this was done last year but I'd love to see if we can get other green foundations involved; ex. Green Software Foundation or Bytecode Alliance (there are some sustainability conversations wrt to wasm + I'm one of the co-chairs for SIG-Community)
KEEP DOING: we did a lot of great initiatives last year like blog posts, live streams, meetups etc., and we should definitely keep doing that. Maybe flag even more that a broader community can contribute content in addition to meetups. MORE OF: communication on social media and collaboration with organizations on spreading the word about the event. Maybe we could also get companies from the space, like Aknostic, re:cinq etc. to spread the word as well. START DOING: STOP DOING: last year we manually prepared a presentation/brochure template for every local meetup. It's a lot of work that's time-consuming. I think that it would be much easier and scalable to create common templates with placeholders for the city/meetup name etc. and then every local meetup's organizer team can copy it and update it with information about the respective meetup themselves. LESS OF: IDEAS:
+1 to what has already been shared in the comments above. Last year I became aware of Sustainability Week just a couple of weeks prior and participated to the Milan local meetup and global event.
Just wanted to also share two points here. MORE OF: sharing as much as possible about the event. Involve other communities that could spread the word.
START DOING: Could we create tailored LinkedIn visuals and text to connect with professionals and event organizers in new regions or continents beyond our current networks, through our networks?
IDEAS: Could I add that it would be great to have as much actionable information as possible? From an individual contributor perspective, cloud sustainability can get overwhelming very quickly, so making sure each meetup has a dedicated slot to a discussion/workshop on how to use one's power as a tech professional could speed up adoption of sustainable practices? If that makes sense.
