I think it is good that you guys are re-evaluating which pieces of your project are actually the most helpful for your site. My group has gone through the same process because our conception of our site has changed from mark-up and through actively coding the pages. Moving to graph-making is a great point to be at and I hope you guys feel like the site re-work (though probably tedious) was worth it!
Our group has had to adjust our markup with a few identifiers to help us with our analysis, similar in the opposite way to how you guys removed unneeded things. We are currently looking at using SVG for our graphical representations as well, we just recently found a tool for doing network graphs in js, which while is extra complicated, would allow us to do graphical representations that will explain our research better. Also awesome commitment to go through and re-tokenize stuff for hours, that can be really tedious but I'm sure your project has benefited greatly from your hard wok!
Our group is also considered how we may best augment our analysis through the markup process. We've already done a good deal of markup, but want to dive more into how we can use graphical representations to represent what we've been marking up into visual data which makes sense for the viewer. The difficulty, in my opinion, is in the choice of what graph to use for a certain topic.
During our meeting we discussed the changes that had been made to our site and our code over the course of the week, Rachel and Caroline had met with Dr. Birnbaum for a few hours to re-tokenize our mark up, and to remove the "variant" aspect we had for our analysis (we decided that this was extraneous and not as useful for our analysis as we thought). In the meeting we used our time to discuss some possibilities for graphs and visual representation using SVG going forward. In addition to this, Charlie quickly recapped batch transformation for Caroline.
