Cannot start meshlab with XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland #1478

Starting meshlab on debian stable (bookworm) results in the error message (in a dialog box):

Meshlab was not able to start.
Please check your Graphics drivers.

Error: GLEW initialization failed: Unknown error

This is Meshlab version MeshLab_64bit_fp v2020.09 running as a normal user on x86_64 in form of an Intel Alder Lake CPU with integrated Iris Xe Graphics.

running meshlab like

XDG_SESSION_TYPE="" meshlab

works fine.

If I compile the current main branch (a748adc) this error message does not appear, but the opengl view port is filling with content from other windows and flickers. Running with XDG_SESSION_TYPE unset the application works as expected.

Same issue here running on Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 after upgrade.

Does this happen with the latest version of MeshLab (2023.12)? It does work as expected on my Ubuntu 24.04 with wayland (using flatpak version).

Same issue with the debian unstable packaged version : 2020.09+dfsg1-3

Same thing with Debian 12 (Bookworm), which by default installs Meshlab 2020.09+dfsg1-2.
